Recently, the Modular Integrated Construction (MIC) Records Storage Room project for the Hong Kong Correctional Services Department's Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre, designed and manufactured by China Construction Integrated, has been delivered to Hong Kong. Utilizing an SMC steel-structured modular building system, the project enables rapid hoisting and assembly of a two-story records storage facility with a total floor area of 486 square meters. The structure comprises 18 standardized archive room modules, 18 roof modules, one elevated steel structural platform, and ancillary staircase equipment rooms among other components.

Upon completion, the facility will address the challenges of document relocation during the reconstruction of Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre and free up archival storage capacity, providing the correctional institution with an efficient, secure, and space-optimized records management solution. The project will fully meet the centre's demands for archival storage safety and operational efficiency.

Efficient Manufacturing

— Addressing Space Constraints —

As an urban district in Kowloon, Hong Kong, with constrained site conditions, Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre – one of the city's primary detention facilities – faces significant spatial limitations. The modular records storage rooms can be flexibly deployed within confined areas, maximizing vertical and horizontal space utilization through stacking or combination of prefabricated modules.

China State Construction's integrated steel structure SMC technology features rapid construction cycles, eco-friendliness, and flexible combinability. It enables standardized main structures, integrated MEP finishes, and modular facade systems tailored to client requirements, achieving over 90% factory prefabrication rate. With dimensionally accurate module control, on-site installation is expedited – reducing installation time by >50% while minimizing construction impact on surrounding environments.

Green Manufacturing

— romote low-carbon and environmentally friendly practices —

The modular archive room achieves full compliance with fireproof, moisture-resistant, and seismic standards under Hong Kong’s British Standards (BS) requirements. Utilizing eco-friendly coatings and energy-efficient building materials, the project reduces carbon emissions by 30% throughout the construction lifecycle, directly supporting Hong Kong’s sustainable development goals.

As CCIST first government project in Hong Kong, this undertaking successfully validates the team’s technical capabilities and regulatory compliance within the BS framework. It establishes a solid foundation for future public sector projects in Hong Kong. CSCEC Integration remains committed to advancing modular construction technology, empowering building innovation through digital solutions while delivering quality-driven services. We strive to provide global clients with safer, more comfortable, greener, and smarter quality housing solutions.
