The first structural lift has been completed for the Shangpai Town Baogong Road Kindergarten in Feixi County, Hefei—a modular integrated building project that is transforming a derelict parking lot into a rapid-deployment kindergarten using the SMC (Steel-structured Modular Construction) system. This milestone marks the project's entry into the rapid construction phase, making it Hefei's first SMC-based modular educational infrastructure. The "Flash-Build School" product system, developed by CSCEC Integration, is injecting technological innovation and environmental sustainability into the city's educational facility expansion.

    Hefei Feixi County's modular integrated construction project for public buildings, including education, comprises the development of four schools. They are:

· The Baogong Road Kindergarten project in Shangpai Town

· The expansion and renovation project of No. 42 Middle School's Huancheng Campus

· The expansion and renovation project of Feicuihu (Jadeite Lake) Junior Middle School

· The expansion and renovation project of Shangpai Town Junior Middle School

    Among these, the kindergarten project is located northeast of the intersection of Païhe Road and Yucai Alley in Shangpai Town, Feixi County. It occupies a total site area of 11,123 square meters, with the kindergarten's building area covering 7,182 square meters.The site was previously a public parking lot that was underutilized and in a state of disrepair. The new plan involves the construction of a kindergarten and a public parking facility.

The project includes:

· A three-story kindergarten building

· A gatehouse building with public restrooms

· A public parking area

· Outdoor activity spaces and a dedicated pick-up/drop-off zone for the kindergarten

Supporting infrastructure will also be built, including roads, water supply and drainage systems, fire protection, electrical power supply, and landscaping.

 Multi-Faceted Design: Crafting Playful Environments

    The kindergarten's main structure utilizes CSCEC Integration's "Flash-Build School" product system, employing 96 SMC steel modules. It breaks away from rigid, grid-like layouts, using eight strategically offset "module cottages" to enclose a versatile, three-dimensional courtyard space. This design mimics a "settlement" form that appeals to children, stimulating their sense of exploration and belonging, and ultimately creating a fun-filled environment that nurtures their innate nature. Upon completion, the project will offer 450 student placements, effectively alleviating the shortage of early childhood education resources in the area.

    The project is situated in an old urban district, surrounded by small-scale, high-density, and irregular building clusters, with a context of winding, narrow lanes.

    Breaking away from traditional cast-in-situ construction methods, the project team pioneered the use of SMC modular construction in Hefei for the first time. This approach involves manufacturing standardized functional units—such as classrooms and activity areas—in a factory, followed by rapid on-site assembly using intelligent hoisting techniques.

    This method significantly reduces wet trades on site, effectively minimizing construction waste, dust pollution, noise pollution, and water consumption. It truly realizes the concept of "building a school like assembling building blocks," leading to a substantial shortening of the construction period.

 Ensuring Safety, Nurturing Health

    The SMC steel modules feature high strength, light weight, and excellent ductility, ensuring a structurally robust and reliable system with outstanding seismic performance. Key structural components and pipeline systems are integrated and prefabricated, guaranteeing high precision and consistent quality.

    On-site construction primarily involves hoisting and assembly, significantly reducing high-risk activities such as working at heights, in open environments, and overlapping operations. This approach enhances construction safety and mitigates potential hazards common in traditional on-site methods.

The use of fire-resistant materials and structural designs compliant with national standards ensures full adherence to building fire safety codes, establishing a solid safety foundation for kindergarten facilities.

With a total construction area of 3,397 square meters, the project involves the construction of a new five-story, L-shaped student dormitory building using modular construction technology, comprising a total of 123 modules.

Hefei Feicuihu Junior Middle School Expansion and Renovation Project

    The project is situated at the intersection of Feicui Road and Zhaoshan Road in Feixi Economic Development Zone, within the campus of Feicuihu Junior Middle School. It has a total construction area of 4,297 square meters and involves the development of a six-story dormitory building with ancillary facilities. Utilizing modular construction technology, the project will comprise a total of 132 modules.

Hefei Shangpai Town Junior Middle School Expansion and Renovation Project

    The project is located south of the intersection of Juxing Road and Renmin Road in Shangpai Town, within the campus of Shangpai Junior Middle School. With a total construction area of 6,927 square meters, the project involves the construction of two five-story dormitory buildings with ancillary facilities. Utilizing modular construction technology, it will comprise a total of 195 modules.
